Hello everyone! I’m John McTavish, your friendly neighborhood tobacco expert. I’m thrilled to be sharing my journey and knowledge with all of you on this blog. I’m currently based in the picturesque country of Scotland, UK, where I’ve been living for the past decade.

I started my career more than 30 years ago as an intern with one of the industry’s giants, British American Tobacco. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with several renowned tobacco companies including Philip Morris International and Imperial Brands. My roles have spanned from product development to quality control, and from marketing to corporate strategy. The knowledge and insights I’ve gained throughout my career have allowed me to understand the tobacco industry from multiple angles.

Throughout my career, I’ve been honored with several awards. I’m particularly proud of the “Excellence in Innovation” award that I received from British American Tobacco for my contribution to the development of a new, less harmful tobacco product. I also received the “Leadership Award” from Philip Morris for leading my team to achieve outstanding sales performance in a challenging market environment.

But my career in the tobacco industry isn’t all I am. Outside of work, I’m an avid hiker and landscape photographer. There’s nothing quite like the Scottish Highlands for an invigorating hike and some stunning photo opportunities! I’m also a jazz enthusiast and play the saxophone in my free time. I find that music, like tobacco, has a deep history and complex layers that are fascinating to explore.
